Who needs to Test and Tag?

Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (2004), all businesses are legally required to maintain a safe, hazard-free workplace, which includes an electrical maintenance program to identify and manage risks. In Queensland, the Electrical Safety Act 2002 and Work Health and Safety Act 2011 require businesses to test and tag electrical equipment to ensure safety compliance and reduce risks.

WorkSafe Queensland's Electrical Safety Office (ESO) oversees test and tag procedures. Construction businesses must follow AS/NZS 3012 for electrical safety on sites, while other industries, including manufacturing, offices, services, agriculture, and amusement parks, must comply with AS/NZS 3760 for equipment testing and inspection.

Employers and business owners must ensure electrical equipment used by employees, customers, or contractors is tested and tagged. This applies to high-risk workplaces such as construction sites, factories, offices, retail spaces, and industries like hospitality, healthcare, education, and those renting equipment. Sole traders, and event organizers must also comply.
